About this event
[vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]Course description: Special care must be taken when concrete is cast in cold weather. For example: If the water in the young concrete is allowed to freeze, the concrete will be damaged and could be unfit for use. Even in colder temperatures concrete will not gain strength as quickly. The course provides practical guidance on design and site prevention measures for concreting in cold weather. The course covers specifying, placing and damage prevention measures and looks at both early age ‘frost’ and long term ‘freeze-thaw’ damage mechanisms. The course is designed for all those involved in concreting operations. Learning outcomes: Delegates will gain an understanding of the practical aspects of concreting in cold weather. mechanisms and consequences of damage early age frost long term freeze-thaw preparation for concrete supply concrete specification and performance strength development practicalities on site delivery placement method formwork and insulation workmanship post placement requirements insulation covers, heating and temperature strength assessment and striking times. Following the course delegates will be able to: Describe the consequences of cold weather Explain specification requirements Describe placing and protection needs Explain strength development Describe damage mechanisms Who should attend: The course is designed for all those involved in concreting operations.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_column_text]Title: Cold weather concreting Duration: 3 hours Date: Wednesday 18th November Time: 10.30am to 1.30pm, including a short break Location: Zoom – joining instructions will be provided 24 hours before the webinar[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] Recommended reference materials: Concrete on site, Winter Working, COS11, Concrete Society, 2015.
