Completion of the course requires attendance at both sessions. As a stand-alone course, it is a perfect introduction to the basics of concrete technology and practice. The course is also the ideal preparation for the Institute of Concrete Technology’s Stage 1 Concrete Practice examination. Learning outcomes: Delegates will gain an understanding of the practical aspects of concreting. Delegates will gain an understanding of the principles of: Types of concrete and its constituents Cementitious materials Natural aggregates Admixtures Water Concrete properties Placing and compaction Curing Formed and unformed surface finishes Testing Delegates will gain an overview of: Health and safety Sustainability Reinforcement Production plant for batching and mixing Mix proportions Transportation and logistics Formwork and falsework Joints Lightweight and heavy-weight concretes Inspection Who should attend: This course is designed to provide the basic knowledge of concrete technology. The course aligns with the syllabus of the Institute of Concrete Technology’s (ICT) Stage 1 certification. The course assumes delegates are working in the concrete industry and have some knowledge of concrete and its constituents. The course is relevant to those directly involved in concrete production as well as those in business development and management roles. Previous attendees include technicians, site operatives, batch plant supervisors, business support roles, apprentices and students. All delegates will be provided the information to book for the ICT exam separately, which can provide the formal certification to demonstrate their understanding of concrete technology. Trainer: Dr Ian Heritage, B.Eng., M.Sc., Ph.D., MICT, Concrete Society Prior to joining the Concrete Society Ian worked for Lafarge Cement as a technical advisor and product training manager. Ian is a technical specialist responsible for the provision of impartial technical advice on concrete and training courses and seminars on concrete and related products.
